Known for pushing the boundaries of gender expression and bringing a distinctive energy to every performance, Brattery Acid has quickly become a standout figure in the drag community. As our September 2024 Spotlight Artist, we delve into the world of Brattery Acid to explore the inspirations, achievements, and vibrant personality that fuel their drag journey.

Breaking Boundaries with Androgynous Artistry

From OnlyFans Idea to Drag Sensation: The Evolution of Brattery Acid

Brattery Acid’s drag name originated during the pandemic, initially intended for a body positivity project on OnlyFans. The name is a clever play on words, reflecting both Brattery’s playful nature and their chronic illness, gastroparesis, which involves producing too much stomach acid. Although the OnlyFans account never materialized, the name stuck and evolved into the persona we see today—Brattery Acid, a drag king who has taken the stage by storm.

Inspiration and Community

Brattery Acid’s Instagram handle, @bratteryacid, is a window into their vibrant and artistic world. Their inspirations are the drag performers they’ve encountered over the past four years, each contributing to Brattery’s growth and drive to constantly improve. This sense of community and mutual inspiration fuels Brattery’s performances, which are known for their creativity and connection with the audience.

Achievements and Aesthetic

Brattery Acid’s aesthetic is a blend of alternative, edgy, and androgynous elements, with a touch of biohazard motifs and the color red—a nod to one of their earliest DIY creations, a suit jacket emblazoned with a red biohazard symbol. This aesthetic aligns with their drag Haus, "Haus of Hazard." Brattery’s ability to oscillate between hyper-masculine and hyper-feminine looks sets them apart, showcasing the versatility and depth of their artistry.

Among their many achievements, Brattery Acid takes pride in organizing and performing at the Shrek and SpongeBob raves in Toronto, where they and their friends created mega-mixes that wowed hundreds of attendees. Winning the title of Supreme of Halloween during their first pageant is another highlight in their drag career, solidifying their place as a rising star in the drag world.

Versatile Performances and Memorable Moments

Brattery Acid’s performances are characterized by humor and a strong stage presence, often drawing on their theatrical background. Despite dealing with chronic illnesses that limit their ability to perform physical stunts, Brattery excels at making audiences laugh with silly and comedic numbers. Their favorite drag memory includes receiving a standing ovation for their OG Shrek Mega-Mix during the London Jimbo show, a moment that encapsulates the joy and connection they strive to bring to every performance.

Representation and Future Aspirations

Through their drag, Brattery Acid champions the message of self-expression and authenticity. They encourage others to embrace their true selves and never let anyone dim their light. Looking ahead, Brattery has set a goal to be the first drag king on a major Drag Race franchise within the next five years. If this goal remains out of reach, they plan to continue inspiring others and producing shows under their production company, King of the Castle Productions.

Leading with Confidence and Breaking Barriers

Brattery Acid’s charisma shines through in every performance, with their energy and charm captivating audiences and empowering them to feel confident in themselves. Their unique ability to blend masculine and feminine traits into a cohesive and compelling drag persona makes them stand out in a field where drag kings are often underappreciated.

Looking Forward: Upcoming Events and Projects

Brattery Acid has several exciting projects on the horizon, including co-producing two more shows in 2024 at Storm Stayed Brewing in London, with the next one scheduled for October. They are also actively advocating for more opportunities for drag kings, urging show organizers to recognize and showcase the diverse talents that kings bring to the drag scene. For bookings, Brattery can be reached via Instagram DM or email at bratteryacid@gmail.com.

Catch Brattery Acid in action this fall, and stay tuned for their upcoming shows at Storm Stayed Brewing. BIO
Born and raised in London, Ontario and the king of the Haus of Hazard, Brattery Acid (he/they) has been performing for almost four years and has had the honour of performing across Southwestern Ontario with many talented performers. Brattery is known for bringing high-energy, full concept numbers, and is also London’s previous reigning Supreme of Halloween (and the first king to hold the title).

Brattery strives to use their voice to amplify those who may not be able to speak for themselves, and loves to bring a sense of wonder to every performance. Drag, for him, is about expressing yourself in the way that feels most right to you; being your true, authentic self and never letting anyone dim your light. Whether you want edgy and alternative, or sexy and seductive, Brattery Acid is the only toxic masculinity you need in your life.
