LUA: Ontario’s Drag Superstar

North Bay recently played host to an electrifying drag competition, Ontario's Next Drag Superstar, which had the entire province tuning in via a live stream. The extravaganza commenced on September 14th, promising an evening of glamour, exceptional talent, and fierce competition that would leave an indelible mark.

Seven sensational finalists took to the stage, each vying for the coveted crown at the North Bay Pride's Drag Competition. The event was emceed by the dynamic duo, the brilliantly witty comedian Alec Mapa (@alecmapa) and the fabulous Tranna Wintour (@trannawintour). Their presence set the tone for an evening filled with laughter, empowerment, and breathtaking performances.

The panel of guest judges added to the dazzle of the night. Bombae (@bom.bae), a standout from Canada's Drag Race season 3, brought their distinctive flair and expertise. Suki Doll (@_thesukidoll), a name synonymous with elegance and fashion in the drag world, hailed from Canada's Drag Race season 2. Kimmy Couture (@itskimmycouture), known for her impeccable style and grace, represented Canada's Drag Race season 3. Kiki Coe (@coekiki) from Call Me Mother lent her critical eye and creative insight, while seasoned pro Cyril Cinder (@cyrilcinder), from Drag Heals season 2, contributed his experience and passion to the judges' panel.

The night featured jaw-dropping performances, fierce runway walks, and heart-pounding lip-sync battles, all culminating in a special musical performance by Drake Jensen (@drake.jensen). However, the star of the night was Lua (@she.is.lua), hailing from Windsor, Ontario. Lua's phenomenal talent and unique runway look as a "dick demon princess," crafted entirely from scratch, captured the judges' hearts and secured her the grand prize of $2,500 and the prestigious title of Ontario's Next Drag Superstar.

Taking to social media, Lua shared her sentiments, stating, "My win goes to show that if you are true to yourself, your art, and the people around you, you will be SEEN and VALIDATED!"

Lua's triumph marked a significant milestone in her already illustrious drag career. She now proudly holds two titles – Forest City Supreme, which she won back in March, and the newly acquired Ontario's Next Drag Superstar. Lua's journey has been an inspirational one, representing not only her hometown of Windsor but also neurodivergence. She expressed her commitment, saying, "I am representing neurodivergence with my crown! Anyone who has ever felt lonely, unheard, disrespected, or unloved in this world… I have your back!"

For Lua, her achievements signify that neurodivergent individuals can excel in any chosen path. She added, "Our brains may see the world through a different lens, but that does not mean it is a worse lens! We need to keep showing the world that we too can be successful in whatever avenue we choose to explore. Our hardships don't define us since we are the artists of our own canvases!"

Lua's remarkable journey doesn't stop there. In August, she had the honor of being pulled up on stage for an impromptu performance at the Werq the World tour (@werqtheworld) at Caesars Windsor (@caesarswindsor), further solidifying her status as a rising star in the drag world.

Congratulations to Lua on her incredible accomplishments and for representing not only herself but also neurodivergent individuals with grace, style, and pride. Her journey is a shining example of talent, authenticity, and resilience in the world of drag.
