The Evolution of Michael Venus & Miss Cotton
Michael Venus has long been a force in the queer art scene, blending fashion, performance, and film to create a distinct cultural footprint. His work with the House of Venus started in Windsor and Detroit in the early ’90s, where he and his collaborators were pioneers of gender-bending club culture. Over the years, his career took him to cities like Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal, where he further cemented his legacy as a creator and curator of LGBTQ+ art and performance.
Enter Miss Cotton. Born out of the vibrant nightlife of the 90s, Cotton is a tribute to glamour, style, and an undeniable love for performance. With her 90s supermodel aesthetic—think blonde Posh Spice meets Barbarella—Cotton’s presence is one of striking beauty and effortless cool. Her influences range from Siouxsie Sioux and Grace Jones to the queens of Drag Race like Raja, Detox and Jinkx Monsoon. Together, Michael Venus and Miss Cotton are two halves of a singular artistic force, constantly evolving and innovating.
